for the birthday wishes! I've been traveling...Hawaii of course and then to Big Sur...home again with a suitcase full of garlic and artichokes! :D

To Isabella.
Wow, Isabella, 15 Jul 2009 06:04
Big Sur! Did you stop at Nepenthe's? Did you stay at Esalen?

To Salote.
Better than Esalen Salote, 15 Jul 2009 22:59
we stayed at a private home on the coast. One of the Esalen chefs cooked for me! okay well I was at the home when he cooked and got to eat. Watched and picked up a few pointers too.

:D

To Omena.
And I get to be in the documentary Omena, 15 Jul 2009 06:35
about the Gilroy Garlic Festival. I play the role of the tourist who takes photos of the ''Gilroy: Garlic Capital of the World'' mural. Of course, I'd never in a million years be caught dead doing such a touristy thing as taking photos of a wall when the film crew just happened to drive by and ask if I could stand there and take another (no! the first one!) picture of the wall. So, I did it for the sake of the arts.

I stepped in with MY opinions.... like why isn't there any garlic ice cream in Gilroy .... and why isn't there a '' Herbie ''bobble head'' this year.... and what is that peculiar odor in the air? Oh .... :D

Belated Birthday Wishes Salo .. Rosibutterfly, 18 Jul 2009 09:14
But I have to ask .. why a case full of garlic and artichokes? Are neither of these splendid vegies available in ElvisLand? ♥

To Salote.
Thanks Rosi! Salote, 18 Jul 2009 20:04
They are available, but not as fresh as what I brought and I can not get the little artichokes that are so great for stuffing! Also most of the garlic sold here is Chinese and thus ancient and ready to sprout! The Gilroy garlic rules!
There is lots of fresh local grown produce here now but no 'chokes and no garlic....

more on opossum Salote, 25 Jan 2009 05:04
They eat all types of insects, including cockroaches, crickets, beetles, etcetera. They catch and eat rats, roof rats, mice, and they consume dead animals of all types (carrion). They like over-ripe fruit, berries, and grapes. And they think snails and slugs are a delicacy! Nature's little Sanitation Engineers!!

Still havn't gotten rid of my possums Live and let live, 24 Jan 2009 10:38
There's a whole family of them, at the very least. Even after I trapped one and brought it across the river, they're still here. It's almost like I helped to spread them. What do I do? Poor stinky possums. Eating everything within site. How can I blame them? They just want what I want.

To Wahoo.

To Nothing.
Thanks for the mothball tip Kiwi Longhaired Possum, 24 Jan 2009 21:48
But as for food, they eat their fill of fruits and vegetables from the neighborhood. And now that it's winter they presumably eat whatever garbage they can find, and they'll probably stay around here because of that. I'll try the mothballs though, but nothing more. I'll leave them be. A knitter friend of mine has yarn made of possum fur from New Zealand. She made a scarf out of it. It's very warm and soft. The ones here have too short of fur for that though, so they're just stuck looking cute and horrible.

a Hillerman yarn....

To Magician.
What's Magician, 27 Okt 2008 22:07
a Hillerman yarn?

To Nothing.
It astounds me that yawn spinning spoidah, 28 Okt 2008 01:03
people who are on the internet so much can't even make use of such things as google or wikipedia. In the time it took me to type this you could have looked that up, and if you had $10 you could click with your mouse onto amazon and a Hillerman yarn would show up on your doorstep two days later. Or, I heard that in some places they have these things called libraries, that are full of billions of sheets of PAPER! with words on them! And you can ''borrow'' them for free. Can you imagine?

To Magician.
Salote specifically brought it up, Magician, 28 Okt 2008 02:42
so I figured s/he might like to explain it him/herself.

To Nothing.
oooooooh shit. looks like brighter days are ahead!, 28 Okt 2008 03:30
rational argument saves the day once again.

To Nothing.
I agree! Chill Pill for $10 on Amazon, 28 Okt 2008 05:19
Sometimes people post things here not for the cat's ass but as an invitation to enquire further. And if it is not an invitation then presumably and at the very least the person posting it won't mind elaborating because they are a reasonable person recognising that as they posted it in the first place, they may as well answer questions that may arise. while the google/wiki argument is reasonable, the $10 and library ones are not - why invest time and/or money to simply have a question as to what something is answered, when the same can be attempted by asking a friendly question?

To Nothing.
I mean this is actually winding me up, hurrah!, 28 Okt 2008 05:22
would you expect the same from a person in conversation with you? You bring something up, they don't know what it is and ask you what it is, do you then refer them to google in an exasperated manner?

To Nothing.
listen prick, sorry if I ruined your 'trick', magician, 28 Okt 2008 05:22
I wasn't trying to argue, I was merely pointing out that people seem to exhibit some semblance of intellectual curiosity, yet completely negate it with their own laziness. Yeah, I'm sure the world will be so much fucking brighter when you find out Hillerman was an award winning author that died yesterday. There's more interesting shit on his single wikipedia page than there is on the last hundred pages of these splats. So you can have your fucking rational argument, you win, you're still stupid and lazy.

To Nothing.
not trying to argue and directly or is that just me?, 28 Okt 2008 05:26
challenging someone on their behaviour in an irritated manner seem mutually exclusive

To Nothing.
I didn't challenge anyone Have fun arguing, illiterates, 28 Okt 2008 05:42
And this isn't a conversation, it's an anonymous message board. Pointing someone toward google and wikipedia is not being exasperated or irritated, it's no more than a right click away. And the fact still remains that unless you've read Hillerman or something about him, you are completely ignorant on the subject. Nice try though.

To Nothing.
you are obviously quite upset this illiterate reads & writes, miracle, 28 Okt 2008 06:11
about Hillerman passing away and I send you my condolances along with my understanding that in your grief you make the grave thinking error that this trail is about the aforementioned author or his work where it quite clearly is not.

To Nothing.
''rational argument saves the day GS, 28 Okt 2008 06:24
once again'' was all me, so you can't blame magician for that one. what a warm welcome we're giving him/her!

To Nothing.
What a cold goodbye to Hillerman you sure waste a lot of time on here, 28 Okt 2008 07:18
I'm not blaming Magician for other peoples ignorance, just for Magician's. If you had simply looked up ''hillerman yarn'' we wouldn't have had this exchange at all. Out of respect for the late Tony Hellerman, I'd like to bow out of this non-argument. He/she/it/they can have it. Morons. And I could tell that was you, GS, by the cadence of your yapping approval.

To Nothing.
Well, you made me do it respect is spelling his name correctly, 28 Okt 2008 07:26
I googled the name, because I needed to know if it's Hillerman or Hellerman

To Magician.
Hillerman Yarn Magician, 28 Okt 2008 18:50
Heh, I come back today and this huge argument has started up. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Just because you asked, I did try to look up Hillerman yarn. I found out about Hillerman the writer, but I still didn't know if Salote was talking about a story by the writer or if Salote just liked to knit. I'm really not here to argue, and I'm not here to 'win' an argument. Again, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I just think this site would be a better place if people would not attack each other just because Person A thinks Person B did something stupid. And one last thing: if you aren't trying to argue and you just want to reasonably point out that someone could have done something better, I don't recommend using sarcasm. It hurts a lot of people's feelings.

To Nothing.
I disagree rare case of perfection, dont screw it, 28 Okt 2008 20:01
